Facing Abortion in the United States Abortion is a common debated topic in the United States. It is becoming commonplace in our society. Terminating an unwanted pregnancy is a difficult choice that many women have faced throughout the years. Through out this paper, reasons for abortion, women, underage girls, parental laws, emotions, and the procedures of terminating a pregnancy will be discussed. While there is still more research being done, it is said that abortion can have both negative and positive effects. There are many reasons for why women seek abortions. The purposes for seeking an abortion have been categorized into 11 wide-ranging themes. The main themes acknowledged as intentions for seeking an abortion included financial reasons (40%), timing (36%), marital reasons (31%), and the need to focus on other children (29%); (Biggs, Gould, Foster 2013). Women seek abortion for reasons that are related to their surroundings, including their economic status, age, healthiness, and marital status (Biggs et al., 2013). For women who have an abortion, their circumstances can sometimes change for the better by not having a baby. Women who feel that they can better themselves without a child in the picture are motivated to have an abortion so they can reach their goals.
